Matthew Alderman’s St. Lucy Illustration Transformed into Stained Glass
This is Lightworks second panel of stained glass based on the work of the American liturgical artist Matthew Alderman. The piece is a faithfully represented section of Matthew’s illustration entitled “Sancta Lucia”. It features a single piece of beautiful red flashed Lambert’s cylinder glass that has then been masked, painstakingly cut, acid etched, hand painted and kiln fired. It has been finished with simple complimentary leaded borders.
While our version of Matthew’s “St. Cecilia of Rome” was embellished with a rich colour palette, deep tonal variation and additional detailing, with this smaller panel we were keen to retain the simplicity of line and colour found in the original ink drawing.
Our images show Matthew’s original illustration and the panel itself in various stages of its production. The whole process of producing this panel has been captured on film and will be posted in the very near future.
