We are currently hard at work producing this large scale bespoke window for a private client. All aspects of glass production are now underway in the studio including glass cutting, painting, kiln firing, masking and acid etching.
These images show our full size (900 x 1550mm) working pattern, or “cartoon”, to give it its technical title, in development. The cartoon is produced completely by hand in the traditional manner with pencil and ink and is used as an exact guide from which to cut and also paint our glass. Aside from the challenge of scaling up our original A3 sized colour design proposal, it is at this stage of the project that we make the final decisions as to exactly where our lead lines will be, itself a great challenge in terms of not disrupting the original design and also being technically possible.
Our next post on the Neptune commission will focus on our progress so far on production. With all glass now cut, we are very busy with painting and kiln firing.
